Raf Simons delegates through the medium of nostalgia, taking on general inspirations of youth culture and subculture rebellion. This essence of youth has been an ever-present fixture and correspondingly appears in the Belgian designer’s new Autumn/Winter 20 collection.
 
Entitled ‘Solar Youth’, Raf Simons turns his hand to elegant and vaguely sci-fi proposals with an obvious foray into youthful interpretations. The collection fuses long coats and oversized knits with a collection of intricate accessories projecting patchwork messaging of ‘We Are The Future’, ‘They Can’t Stop All Of Us’ and ‘SOLAR YOUTH’, emblazing his ever-growing nostalgic trajectory.
 
Familiar silhouettes feed to the usual Raf Simons vision, depicting a sense away from the normal world and into another. T-shirts adorn ‘Life On Mars’ references and speak volumes in showcasing that post-apocalyptic feeling. As well as the extra-terrestrial signifiers within the clothing, Raf Simons added to that extra sense of space by including David Bowie instrumentals to his runway show back in early 2020.
